Counting
How do I count without looking at the watch?
Turn your wrist, or snap your hand. Each counted movement buzzes so you know it registered. You can also tap the dial, and on Series 9 and later you can use Double Tap while the counter is on screen.
A gesture isn't registering, or registers twice.
Settings → Wrist Twist or Hand Snap, and adjust the sensitivity. Settings → Calibrate lets you try gestures without changing your count, and shows which rotation your wrist actually produces.
Does it keep counting when the screen turns off?
Yes. Settings → Screen Off:
- Keep counting (default) — keeps counting for up to an hour at a time with your wrist down. No permissions needed.
- Screen only — counting stops when the screen turns off.
The count didn't reset overnight.
Each zikr keeps its own running count. When you open the app on a new day, a count left over from a previous day is cleared so the ring starts fresh. Your history is never affected — it records each count against the day it was made.
The werd
What is the werd?
A set of phrases you recite together. One count of the werd credits every phrase in it, so their daily rings move together.
How do I change what's in it?
On the watch: Settings → Werd. On the iPhone: the Werd row on the Zikr tab. Both edit the same thing. Changing it does not alter counts you've already recorded.
Your own phrases
How do I add a zikr?
On the iPhone, tap + on the Zikr tab. Only the Arabic is required. It appears on your watch the next time the two are near each other.
Why can't I add one on the watch?
Typing vowelled Arabic on a watch isn't reasonable, so writing is done on the phone.
Reminders
I'm not getting reminders.
Check the iPhone's Watch app → Notifications → Werd is allowed. Then on the watch, Settings → Reminders, and confirm the daily switch is on.
Why does it say some reminders were dropped?
watchOS allows 60 pending reminders. A tight spacing across a wide window asks for more than that, so the later ones are dropped. Widen the spacing or shorten the window and the notice goes away.
The same texts arrive in the same order.
The order is shuffled each day, but the notifications are written when you open the app. On a day you never open it, the previous day's order repeats.
History
My history is empty on the iPhone.
History is recorded on the watch. Open Werd on the watch once with your phone nearby and it will appear.
Will an app update erase my counts?
No. Updating never clears your history. It is lost only if the app is deleted or the watch is erased — and if your iPhone has synced at least once, the watch can restore from it.
Privacy
Werd collects nothing, has no account and contains no networking code. See the privacy policy.
